In 2008, Abu Dhabi United Group became the new owner of Manchester City. Former Wales, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United star Mark Hughes will be the new city manager. The club broke the British transfer record for the second time with Real Madrid's 32.5m contract with Hobinho.
In December 2009, Mark Hughes' successor is Roberto Mancini, former manager of Inter Milan.
In 2010, the Blues enjoy the best Premier League campaign of all time, not only advancing to the semi-finals of the League Cup, but also finishing fifth and advancing to the Europa League in the process.
The long wait for the 2011 trophy ends when the Blues beat Stoke 1-0 to lift the FA Cup, and they also qualify for the 2011/12 Champions League for the first time!
In 2012, City won the league championship for the first time in 44 years following its thrilling Premier League campaign. Sergio Aguero's goal at the end of the last close match against QPR confirmed his victory by showing the most dramatic fashion at the exciting Etihard Stadium.
Manuel Pellegrini of 2014 lifted the Capital One Cup and Premier League titles by grabbing two trophies in a season for the first time since 1970. A 3-1 win over Sunderland in Wembley in March would mark the club's first league cup win since 1976, with the Blues winning the league championship by two points.
In February 2016, City won a penalty shootout against Liverpool following a 1-1 draw at Wembley, lifting the League Cup in three seasons. Willy Caballero blocked three straight penalties to capture Manuel Pellegrini's third trophy. Earlier in the same month, Pep Guardiola announced he would replace Pellegrini in the summer after agreeing to a three-year contract with the club.
